The Nashwaak Trail is an experience for all users. This 10.1 km flat, linear trail from Devon to Penniac, New Brunswick is generally considered an easy route, taking approximately 2.5 hours to walk. This is a popular trail for hiking, mountain biking, and running, but also a wonderful place to enjoy the quiet solitude of nature during a sunset walk. Pets are welcome on the Nashwaak Trail and must remain on leash at all times.
The Nashwaak Trail sits on what was once the railbed of the Northern and Western Railway line. It begins at the north end of the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, the former train bridge built in 1938 and the centrepiece of Fredericton’s trail system since 1997. With the bridge at their back, users of the Nashwaak Trail soon pass the area between Union St, Barker St, and Station Rd, where five trails intersect. Continue northeast (often appearing to be the “go straight” option) to travel along the Nashwaak River and through the Marysville Historic District. When the trail finally crosses the river, it becomes the NB Trail.
The trail travels through urban and rural settings with secluded woodland and scenic views of the Nashwaak River. The fast, flat route makes up a considerable portion of the annual Fredericton Marathon route; it is also an ideal cycling trail. A popular tactic is to cross the Nashwaak at Bridge Street and connect with the Gibson Trail for a 9.5 km loop back towards the city centre.
Parking is available at Station Road, on Mill St. in Marysville, and at a designated parking area on Canada St. 2 km above the Crockett St. and Canada St. intersection.
