Salamanca Trail

Salamanca Trail is a 2.1 km out-and-back trail following the St. John/Wolastoq river, parallel to the stately homes of Waterloo Row. Generally considered an easy route, this short trail takes an average of 27 min to walk. Salamanca is open year-round, and popular for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and trail running. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash at all times.

Passing through flood plains with lush vegetation, this beautiful trail meanders past the Morell Park baseball field, two soccer pitches, a boat launch, the old Loyalist Cemetery, a wooden bridge, and homes, before ending under the Princess Margaret Bridge.

In 2017 the Salamanca Trail underwent renovations, receiving an impressive new gate, flat graded gravel, and expanded parking at Morell Park for the convenience of trail users. These upgrades encourage users to visit Salamanca for the great scenic view and to experience the historic Loyalist burial site.

A major trail clean-up was undertaken by 80 students from UNB’s Faculty of Kinesiology, led by Dr. Gabriela Gionet-Tymowski, in 2019. The Fredericton Trails Coalition appreciates the work of the UNB Faculty of Kinesiology and thanks them for their excellent volunteerism every fall along the trails in the areas near the university. The Coalition relies on the dedication of volunteers across the City to help keep our trails clean and beautiful.
