Adopt-A-Trail
The Adopt-A-Trail program began in 1996 to promote the benefits of the trails, and to ensure that they are kept clean for all who use them. The program is a joint effort of the Fredericton Trails Coalition and the City of Fredericton.
By adopting a trail, local schools, clubs, businesses, and service groups make a commitment to keep a section of trail clean and safe. Adopting a trail is a great way for organizations to demonstrate their support of our great community and to promote civic pride.
Each year during Spring Clean-Up, trail adopters devote a day to picking up litter that has accumulated over the winter months; some groups do a Fall Clean-Up as well. The City of Fredericton supports the annual spring clean-up by providing garbage bags and disposing of the collected waste.
The Fredericton Trail system is portioned into 42 sections for adoption. 34 of those sections are currently adopted, covering much of the trail network. Participating groups adopt a minimum of one kilometre, and a sign is posted on their section of trail to recognize their stewardship and involvement in the program.
